SERBIAN BASKETBALL
HOW DO WE DO IT - NOW SERIUSLY, HOW?
How do we do it – now seriously, how?
It's not a phrase when you hear or read that Serbia is the country of basketball. It's enough to remember the many successes of our basketball team and it will be crystal clear to you (European champions - 1995, silver at the Atlanta Olympics - 1996, European champions - 1997, world champions 1998, European champions - 2001, 2002, silver at the European Championship - 2009, silver at the World Cup in Spain - 2014, silver at the World Cup 2017).
Everyone sees himself as part of a team
How did the Serbs get infected with this basketball virus and why are we so successful? I do not know, and it does not really matter if we continue winning. The problem arises if we accidentally lose a game, but that's who we are. Every Serb is an expert for all types of sports, especially football and basketball, and the favourite position in the Serb team is being the selector. Each of us knows better and more than the selectors, and the reason for each defeat is, of course that the selector has not listened to each one of us. Luckily, this pain is perhaps the smallest in basketball because our players are just too good. Recently one Croatian fan posted on Twiter, that the Serbs would win a basketball medal even if they would send their Dragacevo trumpet orchestra to the championship. A nice compliment that speaks for itself.
The magic will not disappear
The truth is that we have talented players, excellent basketball experts, that our guys do a lot of things to make everything on the field so easy and simple. Our main assets are that we put the team about all individual egos and as well the incredible creativity of team individuals who can sometimes find extreme creative solutions to the ring – therefore securing a new win. I think these weird and unexpected solutions have to do with the virus that we're infected with. When I see kids playing basket on the street trying to imitate Bogdanovic, Teodosic, Jokic, Bjelica and other guys, I know that our basketball has a bright future and that it will be golden.
So, guys, thank you for each medal you have given us, we are waiting for this new gold that will surely come. You're the best!
