SVETOVID

Among the Slavs, especially the Western ones, Svetovid is the highest God, the God of Gods, he is associated with war and victory and is most often represented in the form of a warrior and horseman, his military attributes are a sword, a banner and a spear and are kept in the largest temple dedicated to this God, in the Baltic city of Arkona, on the island of Rouen. That temple was a cult place for the Slavs, the idol of Svetovid that was in it was as high as eight meters, it had four heads so that each one looks at one side of the world. In his right hand he held a metal horn that is filled with mead and is used to predict the harvest at festivals.

A white holy horse was also kept in the temple, which was believed to be ridden by Svetovid himself every night, fighting with enemies. He was especially important when prophesying the outcome of military campaigns.

Svetovid's color is red, so the temple was crowned with a red roof, the sanctuary had a purple curtain and many red decorations and clothes. The priest was the only one who had the right to enter inside, with the proviso that he was not allowed to breathe in the temple so as not to pollute the sanctuary with his breath. The flag, of extraordinary size and color, was kept there, which the Slavs carried in front of them during military campaigns as a guarantee of victory.

The days of Svetovid are from Vidovdan to Ivanjdan, in his honor people jumped over fires and passed under flower wreaths and thus celebrated spring, summer and autumn. During Svetovid's holiday, people would be treated for eye diseases using spring water and the seer's plant.
