THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS (KRSTOVDAN)
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, known in the Serbian tradition as Krstovdan, commemorates the day when Empress Helena discovered the cross on which the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified. On that occasion, Patriarch Macarius elevated (exalted) the cross before the people, who responded with the prayer: "Lord have mercy."
The feast day is celebrated on September 27th. On this day, a strict fast is observed, and the faithful bow before the cross as a symbol of salvation and faith. The icon of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross symbolizes spiritual triumph and reminds us that the cross is the "guardian of the whole universe."
The icon of the Holy Cross should be placed on the eastern wall of your home to beautify your space and fill it with blessings. It is an exceptional gift—a symbol of protection and faith for every Orthodox family.
