Saint Luke

Saint Luke lived in the 1st century, a time when Christianity was rapidly spreading across the ancient world. A fascinating historical fact is that Luke, a physician from Antioch by profession, was one of the few highly educated individuals of his time to embrace Christianity, becoming an inseparable companion to the Apostle Paul, who called him the "beloved physician" in his epistles. History records him as the father of Christian art; tradition holds that he was the first to paint the likeness of the Virgin Mary, as well as the Apostles Peter and Paul, thus laying the foundations of visual theology.
