Nicholas (Nikolaos) was a real historical figure, the Archbishop of Myra in Lycia (modern-day Turkey) during the 4th century. As a devoted servant of God, he performed many miracles: it is believed that through prayer, he calmed a storm at sea and saved sailors, which is why travelers worldwide consider him their heavenly navigator. His relics, located in Bari, Italy since 1087, continue to exude healing myrrh to this day.
