Saint Tryphon 

Saint Tryphon lived in the 3rd century (martyred in 250 AD), during the reign of Emperor Decius Trajan, one of the fiercest persecutors of Christians. A fascinating historical fact is that Tryphon was a humble, poor boy from the village of Kampsada, whose gift of healing earned him such renown that Emperor Gordian III summoned him to Rome to cure his daughter, Gorda. History records that after casting out the evil spirit, Tryphon refused all imperial gifts and riches, distributing them to the poor on his journey home. However, with the rise of the cruel governor Aquilinus, Tryphon was arrested for refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods.

His suffering was epic—he was tied to a horse and forced to run barefoot through snow and thorns, yet records state he remained cheerful, singing psalms. He surrendered his soul to the Lord just before the executioner's sword could fall. In Serbian tradition, he is inextricably linked to vineyards; on his feast day, vine-growers prune the vines for the first time in the year and water them with wine, believing Tryphon will protect the crops from hail and pests.
