Saint John Chrysostom, the most famous preacher in the history of the Church, a great ascetic and reformer. He was the patriarch of Constantinople (397-402), the capital of the then Eastern Roman Empire, and is one of the church's scholars.

He first studied Greek philosophy and abhorred Greek polytheism.

He then adopted the Christian faith as the only and whole truth, and studied theology in the school of biblical exegesis directed by Diodorus of Tarsia.

As a saint, he is celebrated on November 13 (November 26 according to the new calendar). In addition, January 27 marks the transfer of his relics from the Armenian village of Komana to Constantinople in 438.
