LET‘S STEP INTO THE WORLD OF SLAVIC MYTHOLOGY!
We make this call on the sincere belief that most of our compatriots have very modest, and even more often, no knowledge of Slavic mythology. Everyone will have something to say about Apollo, Zeus, Jupiter, Prometheus, Atlantis, Elves, or tell some legend from Greek or Roman mythology, but how many of you know about Perun, Veles, Svetovid, Rod or Vesna?
Yes, these are gods from our Slavic mythology. In this age of rapid living, commercials and blockbusters, the revival of the various characters of Greek and Roman mythology transformed into comic book and novel superheroes, our formal school education at all levels almost never mentions the mysterious, magical world of our ancestors.
From Pramrak to Prajajet, from Svarog to Perun, giants, dwarves and the Tree of the World - these are all parts of one universe that ruled the lives of our ancestors and which still exist today in our daily lives.
Little is known today about the gods, myths, religion of our ancestors, but on the basis of what is known and discovered ethnologists have succeeded in isolating Slavic mythology as a special system of customs and beliefs of peoples who once lived in our region. She is special in herself and has many qualities that set her apart from each other.
What exactly is mythology? What is its significance?
The need that man has had ever since in the world and for centuries to find an explanation for much of what is happening in himself and in nature has led him to create myths and beliefs.
This ordered set of myths, which we call mythology, seeks to shape one worldview, to set coordinate axes in which the thinking of a people will be housed. The myths of different cultures talk about becoming, about the origin of man, about the relationship between humans and gods. Some myths explain why the wind blows and the waves of the forest, why the sun is baking, why the seasons are changing, why we are sick with illness, death ... Before there was science at all, people were trying to understand the world in which they live by myths, which were passed from generation to generation.
Even today there are undiscovered parts of the mythology of the ancient Slavs, but nevertheless, based on some archaeological findings and ancient records of chroniclers of the time, we can get an insight into the mythological world of the ancient Slavs. The whole hierarchy of Slavic deities has not been completely disposed of, a dilemma exists with the supreme deity - Svarog or Perun.
For every aspect of Slavic life there was a certain god, so that the world was waged by wars and prophecies, the herds and fields were most probably governed by Volos, in winter by Stribog, Vesna on spring, and births by the fate of some Slavs.
All these gods had their temples and shrines, sacrifices were offered to them in the hope that the gods would heed the wishes of their subjects. The mediators between the subjects and the gods were priests, the most powerful inhabitants of the Slavic tribes.
The Slavs also respected their dead, it was believed that the deceased's soul was moving to another world, across the sea. In short, the Slavs possessed a rich and strong culture, and thus a diverse mythology, which was an essential component of their daily lives.

Even today there are large undiscovered parts of the mythology of the ancient Slavs, so the insight into the polytheistic religion of the Slavs is incomplete. However, there are always researchers and curious people who have tried through their visions to complete the picture of the magnificent world of Slavic mythology.
One of the authors, that is, the work that Serbianshop offers is Slavic mythology, the work of Nenad Gajic, as an ideal combination of a modern approach to the mythological theme and scientific study.
Slavic mythology deserves special attention because in it the author Nenad Gajić reviewed, systematized and consolidated his previous knowledge about this topic in an accessible style and understandable language.
From the wide range of such literature, Serbianshop particularly recommends an updated edition of one of the most extensive studies of Serbian and Slavic mythology, which presents the results of a long-standing research by Professor Sreten Petrovic, entitled Serbian Mythology in Belief, Customs and Ritual. The book is enriched with numerous illustrations and folders that will help the reader to better and better overcome possible doubts.
One classic work on the subject of Slavic Mythology belongs to the famous French linguist and historian Louis Leger (1843-1924). He studied in detail Slavic mythology, its legends, stories, poems about becoming a universe and its gods.
Long awaited and unique, this literature leads us to understand the incredible diversity and depth of what we call the cultural heritage of Slavic and Serbian people, but it certainly nurtures a connection to a mysterious and magical world that has permeated our past and tradition, albeit imperceptibly. actively pervades our present.
