Milica further belonged to the side line of the former Nemanjic dynasty, since her father, Prince Vratko, was the great-grandson of Vukan, the eldest son of Stefan Nemanja.

 

Milica was born about 1335, and around 1353 she married Lazar Hrebeljanović. After the death of Emperor Uros, Lazar became the Duke of Raska with the capital in Krusevac. She and Lazar had three sons (Dobrivoj, Stefan and Vuk) and five daughters (Jelena, Mara, Dragan, Teodora and Oliver). The daughters were marrying the surrounding lords, thereby strengthening the dynastic influence.
