Get to know Serbia - Djerdap National Park
Get to know Serbia - learn something new about Serbia, its magnificent places and unique people- here is Djerdap National Park for you today
Djerdap National Park is located in the northeast of Serbia on the border with Romania going all the way to a part of the Đerdap Gorge, which is the longest and largest gorge in Europe.
As the legend goes, Djerdap (i.e. a whirlwind or a swirl in Turkish) was created by the gods and giants who apparently had moved the walls 800 millennia ago and in doing so they allowed for the Pannonian Sea flow through the gorge.
In the time of the Roman Empire, the Trajan Bridge ran through the Djerdap Gorge , which was considered a wonder of the world, and today it is a protected natural wonder which is home to extraordinary flora and fauna. Here you can find a large number of endangered species, where a lynx, a wild cat, a jackal, a white tailed eagle and the Ural owl are just some of them.
We selected Trajan's Slate, the Statue of Decebel Rex and the Golubac Fortress to feature in the photo , though that is but a meagre part of what makes this area superb and stunnigly beautiful and why will probably fall in love with it at first glance.
