  • Day of healing: It is believed that on this day the power of prayer is particularly strong. Many vow that on this day they will go under Ostrog or to the local church for the health of their loved ones.

Is Đurđevdan always a meat-based (mrsna) feast?

Đurđevdan is typically meat-based. However, if May 6th falls on a Wednesday or Friday, the Slava feast must be Lenten (posna) according to Church canons.

Why is St. Basil of Ostrog so important in Serbia?

He is considered a great miracle worker and healer. What are the customs for St. Mark's Day?
On Markovdan (May 8), heavy work in the fields is avoided because it is believed that the saint protects crops from hail and storms. Also, the old custom says that on this day you should not sleep during the day.
