Some of his most famous works include the comedies The People's Deputy, A Suspicious Character, The Lady Minister, Mr. Dollar, and novels The Provincial Child, The Nine Hundred Fifteenth, and The Outlaws.

Nušić is considered a successor to Jovan Sterija Popović and Kosta Trifković in the field of comedy writing, and his works satirically depicted social phenomena in Serbia during his time. His works are still frequently performed on theater stages and represent an essential part of Serbian literature.
